Jeff Buckley - Mama You Been On My Mind 1994 (get it)

June,

Go on.

Breeze over my skin. Pass through the curtains and the window screen.

Hot wind come in from the desert.

Remember what we’re like.

Whisper in my ear, and tell me all about it.

I missed you.

Look mom I'm on TV!

BBC Channel 4 is doing a concert series this summer. They filmed a gig I did with Darwin Deez in Nottingham. I’m pretty sure it will be airing on June 11, 2010.

In the meantime, here’s the teaser…

(Our segment starts at 1:25)

That guy in the striped shirt at the top of the video with an impossibly un-rock n’ roll smile, that’s me.

Gil Scott Heron - New York Is Killing Me 2010 (get it)

Clap with me.

KCRW has been running a version of this song with a MosDef guest rap on it for the last week.

Nothing against MosDef, but I think I prefer the original. First time I heard it was at the Deaf Institute in Manchester about a month ago. It was the champagne song in the DJ’s set. All the kids on the dance-floor went nuts like it was Lil’ Weezy. Their mainstream is our Indie. Still so crazy to me.

Where we shoot:

These maps created by Eric Fischer, based on geotagging, show where pictures are taken in some of the worlds largest cities. Cool, huh?

How well do you know LA?

I got this email….

Hey Miles,

They’re using a “RD” in a compilation about cities. Since our song is about LA, they want to know our 4 favorite spots in LA. Could you represent us? I don’t know much, but if i had to say something, I would say the LA river and maybe also the smell. That leaves 2 or 3 spots for you to please fill in?
Thanks,

D

These were the first things that came to mind:

(I got a little carried away and wrote 10)

1. The bench at the top of Runyon Canyon.

2. Wurstküche, the best damn sausages in LA.

3. The Varnish, for hot buttered rum on a cold night.

4. The Farmers Market at 3rd and Fairfax, for everything from Korean
BBQ to french crepes. Crazy cheap.

5. King Kingthe Floor”, for dancing.

6. Hotel Cafe, for live music.

7. Pasadena Rose Bowl Flea Market, biggest garage sale ever. * , *

8. First Fridays at the Natural History Museum, for Indie music and dinosaurs. * , *

9. The Bicycle Kitchen, for bikes and community.

10. Griffith Park, for stars. *

Election Day in the UK

The United Kingdom has it’s general election today for the next Prime Minister. With our own still in recent memory, it has been interesting watching the motherland negotiate democracy in these modern times. As it happens, we are playing a gig in Wales tonight, in the small city of Wrexham, where the fervor of the election feels a little distant. On the way here we did however stop at a service station where I took some photos of the local rags to see how they chose to cover this momentous event.

Sick Day

I spent my Sunday alternately dry heaving over the toilet and shivering/sweating in bed. Then, at around midnight, I was revived by two incredible documentaries:

Just what the doctor ordered.
