T. Monk’s Advice 1960
This list was transcribed by saxophonist Steve Lacy in 1960. The advice came from legendary pianist and band-leader Thelonious Monk. 30 years after his death, Monk’s advice holds up. Certainly as a musician, this list is relevant. I’ve found, however, this advice like the basic rules of improv is pretty much applicable to all forms of creation, and daily life.
